Clinical and Educational Program
The Medical School of the University of Athens has over 600 faculty members occupied in several University Hospitals within the Athens Metropolitan Area (an area of approximately 4 million inhabitants). The Joint Rheumatology Academic Program (JARP) was created by combining the Rheumatology- Clinical Immunology Units of three University Hospitals, namely: 1) “Laiko Hospital” P.Sfikakis (Professor), A.G.Tzioufas (Professor), P.G. Vlachoyiannopoulos (Professor), and M.Tektonidou (Professor), 2) “Attikon Hospital” D. Boumpas (Professor), C 3) “Hippokratio Hospital” D. Vassilopoulos (Professor).
The aforementioned Rheumatology-Clinical Immunology Units accommodate dedicated Outpatient Clinics, Day Hospital/ Infusion centers and Inpatient Beds within the Departments of Internal Medicine of the three hospitals. Within the three hospitals, there are dedicated Musculoskeletal Ultrasonography and Capillaroscopy facilities, as well as Clinical Trials Units. In addition, there is a central Research Laboratory at the main campus of the Medical School in Goudi, Athens with satellite units.
There is also an extended educational program on Internal medicine and Rheumatology for the 3rd, 4th 5th and 6th year Medical Students and a common curriculum in Rheumatology, with trainees rotating among the participating Units of the three hospitals. JARP also accommodates a high number of PhD students working on several clinical, basic, and translational research projects. We also include educational programs for nurses and patients
